Karen from England, 20 years old, writes: Saturday, 18th July 2009 Today, from across the world the volunteers of the work and study camp arrived. We may have been tired from work but we had energy for the prospect of the next three weeks. The excitement grew as the number of different nationalities became apparent to us all. The afternoon and evening was spent playing games which lightened the mood so that laughter was heard. Strangers were becoming friends. Sunday, 19th July With the first night over (on the not quite 5 star camp beds) the day began with a song and dance to wake us up properly. The camp leaders talked to us about the work we will be doing and why it is so important. In the afternoon once the rain had stopped we cycled to the work camp site. Here we were given a guided tour to learn, in more detail, about the history. After this we were welcomed by the Vice-Mayor and press of Moerfelden-Walldorf. To finish our first day we had a big feast with the local "Thueringer Bratwurst". |
